Environmental Health plays a vital role in man’s health and that Environmental Health Management forms are the bedrock on which a lasting foundation for Health care delivery can be based, we believe in the promotion and maintenance of physical, mental and social well being of the individual and the community at large and the control of factors in physical, chemical, biological and psychological environment that are detrimental to humans.

DURATION / STRUCTURES OF THE PROGRAMME
The Diploma courses for EVT is structured to last for Three (3) years. This incorporates two to four months of supervised field and practical skills.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE
Prospective candidates should obtain application from the secretary to Director of Studies. The form should be completed and submitted back. Recognizing the fact that many candidates may be civil servants who will intend to obtain official permission at their places of work, entry examinations holds twice. The first one holds in June/July while the second holds in August/September. Successful candidates are required to pay acceptance fee and obtain admission letter. Academic activities normally resumes between September and October.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
Prior to commencing the Environmental Health Technician course, a candidate must produce evidence of holding on of the following qualifications:
General Certificate of Education (GCE), West African School Certificate (WAEC), National Examination Commission (NECO) or Teachers Certificate (TC II) with five (5) Passes in any of the aforementioned Certificates.
Note that the five (5) passes must include three (3) Credit Passes in any of the following subject: English, Biology, Health Science, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing and any other subject. Mathematics would be an added advantage.
For the purpose of this syllabus, Science Subjects means and includes Biology, Chemsitry, Physics, General Science, Integrated Science and Health Science. All these should be obtained at not more than Two (2) sittings.
Holders of Environmental Health Technician Diploma with the HND requirements should be admitted directly to first year HND Environmental Health. Holders of EHA, DSA, CHA/CHEW, Pharmacy Assistants and MLA with two years post qualification experience can be admitted at 200 Level of Environmental Health Technician Diploma provided they fulfill the basic conditions.

The need for a National Health Information System that will supply accurate health and demographic data for the planning, administration, monitoring, and evaluation of Health services has been highlighted in the National Health Policy and Strategy of 1988. The present revision of the Health Records Science and Bio-statistics Curriculum is vital to the success of the nation’s emerging Health policy because the implementation and administration of the policy depends to a very large extent on the accessibility of respective arms of the Health sector to accurate Health Information.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Health Information Management Curriculum are predicated on the conviction that the functions of the Health Information Management Officer are beyond mere keeping of health records. The functions include the planning, organizing, collating, monitoring, disseminating and management of the vital information required at Local, State and Federal levels to ensure effective and comprehensive achievement of the National Health Care Delivery System.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Prospective Candidates intending to study for the Technician in Health Information Management (NCIM) must posses a minimum of five (5) passes, three (3) of which must be at credit level at a sitting at the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent. Subjects to be passed must include English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Health Science and two other subjects. In exceptional cases matured candidates with less qualifications but with at least 7 years working experience in the Nigerian Health Information Management System may be admitted for the NCIM programme by the Board.

Duration Of The Course: Three (3) Years.

Certificate Awarded: Certificate in Health Techniques.

Mode Of Training: The programme is part-time. Summary Of Function: carry out 70% of his/her primary health care functions in the community and 30% of the clinic.

The health assistant is a member of health team who is trained to work both in the preventive and curative health care setting with some phases of social work in the home and community. He / She will be employed by the Government, Private Institutions and individuals to assist in the rendering of First Aid Care to those needing such care.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
1. Senior Secondary School Certificate with 3 – 5 Credit Passes at not more than two sittings.
2. Existing workers (e.g ward orderlies, ward maids, dispensary attendants) in health facilities with two years working experience in addition to senior secondary school certificate.

CERTIFICATE OFFERED
At the end of the course, successful students shall be given State / College Certificate for Health Assistants.

ADMISSION INTO THE COURSE
Prospective candidates shall obtain forms from the admission officer Ogun State college of Health Technology, Ilese-Ijebu after which they shall sit for examination into the school. Thereafter, successful candidates shall be admitted after appearing before an interview panel.
